Museums: not so dry and dusty… | Restore Heritage Storage

Each year since 1977 the International Council of Museums has invited every museum in the world to take part in promoting museums and their work around a particular theme. This year the theme is Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition.

International Museum Day takes place on (or very close to) 18 May each year. It has been steadily increasing in popularity and by 2016 around 35,000 museums across 145 countries took part. To celebrate this special day, museums arrange conferences, talks, demonstrations – even music festivals.

The shortlist for UK Museum of the Year 2019 has just been announced, so if you are looking for a new museum to explore you might like to consider one of these:

The winner must demonstrate exceptional imagination, innovation and achievement over the previous 12 months. There’s not long to wait as the winner is announced on 3 July.

Museums and their collections are close to our heart as our specialist Heritage Storage Scheme goes from strength to strength. We understand that collections need to be moved in and out of display, travel off on loan or be archived quietly for a while. Our converted hardened aircraft shelters are unique in being able to offer high-security, NCS-monitored facilities that meet stringent BS EN 16893:2018 standards.

If you’d like to find out more about heritage storage or come and visit, just call our Heritage Consultant, Michael Watts, on 03300 377 697.
